K Rend, Weber & Parex – through colour render sealing, recoluring and repair in Cornwall
How to repair damaged or cracked render
Has your render cracked or suffered some form of stain or damage?
Through colour render such as K Rend, Weber, and Parex can be difficult to repair when damaged or cracked. At South West Render Clean we have over 150 samples from the four major brands, allowing us to provide an exact match to 95% of the render used in the UK.
When tackling through colour render repairs we can ‘patch in’ spots of render, though this will often still show as a repair, even if the material is an exact match. Or, you have the option to completely recolour the render with a fully breathable, colour impregnated sealant.

How and why to seal render
Through colour render such as K Rend, Weber, and Parex are breathable materials and while this benefits the interior of your home by releasing moisture to prevent damp issues, the semi-porous surface can take in water, which when mixed with the warm energy of the sun, causes algae colonisation – the green, red and black stains you seen on rendered walls.
A process which is now approved by K Rend, sealing render with a specialist penetrative, waterproofing solution which can be clear or colour matched allows the surface to still breathe, whilst water simply runs off. You have now taken away the single most important factor in algae colonisation, a damp surface for it to grow on.
Just like your car, patio or any other surface that is exposed to water and sunlight, your walls may still be prone to algae growth, however, only at the same rate as a standard painted, non-porous surface.
Can through-colour render be pressure washed or painted?
Manufacturers state that through-colour render can be pressure washed using no more than 100 bar of pressure at a distance of 300mm… that said, this method will not be effective enough to remove algae stains and the temptation will be to move in closer, applying more pressure.
Aggressive cleaning will cut away the top layer of the render, often leading to ‘blown’, cracking patches of render and the loss of the lighter aggregates that contain the render’s colouring pigments.
Your home was constructed in a way that allows it to breathe and your render plays a vital role in this process.
Although there are water-based acrylic paints on the market advertised as suitable for through-colour-render, the issues they may induce in the long term far outweigh the benefit of what may seem like a ‘quick fix’. A fix that is often four to six times more expensive than a Soft-wash render clean.
Issue one: Elimination of the renders breathing action, causing moisture to be trapped inside your building.
Issue two: Flaking / blistering of paint. The material’s porosity and capillary action will draw moisture behind the paint, causing it to blister.
Issue three: Freeze – thaw reaction. If water becomes trapped behind the paint and temperatures drop below freezing, the expansion of water turning to ice can blow holes in the render.
Issue four: Disintegration of render. Trapped water keeps the render wet for long periods of time, leading to the material disintegrating.
At South West Render Clean we do however offer a render sealing and recolouring service for through colour render and all aspects of exterior painting for traditional cement render, as this has low moisture permeability and is less affected by the above.
